F. Matthew Kuhlmann, MD
Instructor of Medicine
Dr. Kuhlmann joined the faculty at Washington University in 2010. He graduated summa cum laude from Emory University in 1998 with a B.S. in Biology and also received his M.D. from Emory University in 2002. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine in 2005 and served as a Chief Medical Resident at the University of Colorado. In 2006, he began his infectious disease fellowship at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, completing his training in 2010.
Research Interests
Dr. Kuhlmann’s research interests in the laboratory of Dr. Stephen M. Beverley focus on drug development against the neglected tropical disease, leishmaniasis. Current antileishmanial agents are toxic, expensive, or ineffective due to drug resistance. Novel therapies are needed to safely control the spread of disease. Targets of current interest include sterol synthesis, sphingolipid synthesis, and TOR kinases.
