Patient Care Most of the clinical activities in patient care take place in Barnes-Jewish Hospital, an 1375 bed facility located in St. Louis which draws patients from a broad geographic area. The Division also operates a consultative service at the John Cochran Veteran’s Administration Hospital (located approximately 10 minutes from Barnes Jewish Hospital). Barnes-Jewish Hospital is perennially rated as one of the ten best hospitals in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. It provides care to the 2.5 million people in the St. Louis metropolitan area and patients in its large referral base in the Midwest and beyond. An incredibly diverse spectrum of infections and other medical problems are seen on the clinical services including those diseases common in inner city and indigent patients, in more affluent private patients, and in patients referred to the specialty services such as bone marrow and solid organ transplantations. The clinical services of the Division are extremely busy and see approximately 2000 consults per year. Teaching rounds are conducted with an attending every day. The infectious disease fellows have the opportunity to interact with and learn from world class house officers and attending physicians in every medical and surgical specialty in Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The outpatient clinical service of the Division operates 5 days a week with two attendings working with fellows, medicine residents, medical students and nurse practitioners. More than 5000 patients including 850 HIV infected patients were seen in the outpatient clinic last year. One of the largest AIDS Clinical Trials Units is part of the Division and is located in the clinic building so that expert help to care for patients with HIV/AIDS is available at all times and rapid access to clinical trials and new innovative treatments is readily available. Patient care and teaching on our clinical services have the highest priority, consistent with the rich tradition of Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital. 4570 Children's Place Office Hours Monday through Friday Appointments: (314) 362-9098, 1-800-858-3541 Nurses: (314) 747-1206 After Hours: (314) 362-1242 Ask for the I.D.
